Library

Students Should avail the Library during their free time. Our School Library contains more than 5000 books are available. We have well equipped fully furnished and air conditioned Library. The School library ensures that all the students have equal access to books for reading and information. The library serves as a learner oriented lab to support, extend and individualize the school’s curriculum. There is a facilitator to guide the students to select the books.

Don Bosco College, Sulthan Bathery offers one of the best libraries in the district of Wayanad, Kerala. It has a computerized Library Management system with 13000 volumes, in addition there are Journals, Magazines and Dailies. The Library is envisaged to support the educational and research programs of the institute by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and the anticipated educational and research functions of the institute.

Organizational set up

Our College follows a centralised library system.  More over we have Department Library Collection for immediate references. The college library building is functional and constructed at the central corner of the Institution. It has an area of 15,000 sq. ft. in two floors - Ground floor and Upper Ground floor.

Groundfloor

The Ground floor houses Under Graduate section, Reprographic (Photocopying section), Technical Section, Back Volumes, General reading area, UG reference section.

UpperGround Floor

In the upper ground floor Postgraduate section, Reference Section, Journals & Magazine section, New Arrival Section, Newspaper reading section, Property Counter, Librarians Cabin, Circulation Section, Internet Browsing Corner, Research section, CD-DVD Collection and Question Bank section are accommodated.

Library collection

The library at present has a collection of 13000 volumes including Textbooks and Refernces.  And Library preserves the collections of 350 CDs, 15 number of Journals, 40 types of Magazines both English and Malayalam. The library provides INFLIBNET service to the users.

Arrangements of the collection

Books are arranged on the shelves according to Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), a scientific scheme of classification. This type of arrangement will help to keep the books on the same subject together with those on related subjects coming next to them. Open access facility is provided in the library to help the reader browsing the stack and selecting the books of his choice.

Computerization

The Library offers Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) - a computerized catalogue service.  All the books in the library are bar coded. This helps the circulation counter in issue and return of books quickly.  Members are given bar - coded ID cards and books are issued on producing the ID cards.

Membership

All members of the Staff, Students, Research scholars and Non - teaching staff of the college are members of the library.

Working hours of the library will be as follows:

Monday – Friday     9:00am – 5:00pm

Saturday     9:15am – 4:30pm

RULES FOR THE LIBRARY

1. Reading is an important means of gaining knowledge, building language skills, and of enjoyment. Students must inculcate in themselves the habit and love for reading.

2. Strict silence and order is observed by all in the library.

3. A student must be in the school uniform and in possession of the school identity card to enter the library. However, for borrowing, one needs to have the library card. These cards are not exchangeable.

4. All articles and personal belongings must be left outside when entering the library. Only an exercise book and library book, if to be returned, may be taken into the library.

5. Only one book will be issued per card and no student can take a book on another’s card. Abook can be kept for two weeks and may be renewed for a maximum of one more time.

6. Books exclusively for consultation are not to be taken out of the library. They remain available to all students all time.

7. Before leaving the library every student must submit himself and the books borrowed for scrutiny.

8. All magazines, reference book or books used while in the library must be put back into its proper place after reading.

9. Books borrowed from the library must be returned directly to the librarian. They must not be circulated. A student who circulates books borrowed from the library may have his library card withdrawn and may be fined as well.

10. If any defect is noticed in a book that is being borrowed, the librarian should be notified. Failure to do this checking renders one liable to be considered responsible for the defect noticed on the return of the book. A penalty may be imposed for damages done to books and articles in the library.

11. Books lost must be replaced by the borrower. 12. A remark will be entered in the library page of the School Diary for every book returned late. Three such remarks will result in the withdrawal of the lending card and a fine of Rs 50/- may be imposed.

The college library has a collection of 26,558 volumes and 15 journals. The reading room of 1300 sq. ft., with its atmosphere of peace and quiet, is an invitation to staff and students to enrich themselves by seeking information, knowledge and wisdom. The library offers additional services like Photostat, Internet, Question and Answer Banks.

The library remains open from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on all working days. Library usage is compulsory. Library footfall is regularly monitored and the individual student record of library usage will be monitored by the library staff. Library books are issued on production of identity and library cards. Before leaving the library students are advised to verify the issue and return records on their library cards. Great care should be taken not to delay the return of books beyond the due date. Fines are levied for delayed return of books. Library has awards for Best Library User
